Stained Glass Candle Sconce Making
There is something about a sconce that just feels luxurious. Maybe it is the history associated with them – sconces have been used for centuries to light up hallways and rooms. Maybe it is the unique look they add to a space. Or maybe it is simply the fact that they are not as common as other forms of wall lighting.
Whatever the reason, if you are looking to add a touch of luxury to your home, consider making a stained glass candle sconce. This project is a bit more involved than some of the others featured on this blog, but it is well worth the effort.
The first step is to choose the right glass for your sconce. You will want a piece that is at least 12”x12”, and it is best to go with a thicker piece of glass, at least 1/4” thick. You can find stained glass at most craft stores, or you can order it online.
Once you have your glass, you will need to cut it to size. You can use a glass cutter or a stained glass saw to do this. If you are using a glass cutter, you will need to score the glass with the cutter, and then break it along the scored line. If you are using a saw, you will need to cut the glass into the desired shape.
Once your glass is cut, it is time to start assembling your sconce. You will need to use a lead came to hold the glass in place. This is a thin metal strip that comes in a variety of shapes and sizes, and it is used to hold the pieces of glass together.
To assemble the sconce, you will first need to determine the placement of the glass. You will then need to cut a piece of lead came to fit the shape and size of the glass. You will then need to attach the lead came to the back of the glass using lead came adhesive.
