My name is Josh Garcia and I am the host of the Voyager with Josh Garcia show on NBC. I am also a self-proclaimed candle making expert!
Candle making is a fun, easy and affordable way to create unique home décor items that will add personality and style to any room.
In this experience, you will learn how to make your own scented candles. We will be using soy wax, which is a natural, eco-friendly and renewable resource.
We will also be using fragrance oils, which are available in a wide variety of scents. You can choose to make candles that smell like flowers, fruits, spices, or any other scent that you like.
The first step is to choose the containers that you want to use for your candles. You can use anything from Mason jars to votive cups to tea light holders.
Once you have chosen your containers, you need to decide how much wax you will need. The amount of wax you need will depend on the size and shape of your containers.
To figure out how much wax you need, you will need to know the volume of your containers in ounces. You can use a kitchen scale to measure the weight of your containers, and then divide that number by ounces per pound to determine the volume.
For example, if you have a Mason jar that weighs 16 ounces and you want to make a candle that will burn for approximately 20 hours, you will need approximately .8 ounces of wax.
Once you have determined how much wax you need, you can start melting it. Place the wax in a pot on the stove and heat it until it is melted.
Be careful not to overheat the wax, as it can cause it to smoke and produce an unpleasant odor.
Once the wax is melted, add the fragrance oil of your choice. You can use up to .35 ounces of fragrance oil per pound of wax.
Stir the wax and fragrance oil together until the oil is fully mixed in.
Now it’s time to pour the wax into your containers. Be careful not to spill it, as the wax is hot!
Once the wax has cooled and hardened, you can light your candle and enjoy the beautiful flame and wonderful scent.
