## Making A Homemade Candle
Making a homemade candle is a great way to spruce up your home and add a bit of homemade flare to your decor. It’s also an easy, enjoyable project that doesn’t require a lot of expertise or resources. Whether you’re making a special gift for someone or just want to experiment with your own craft, making a homemade candle is surprisingly simple and satisfying!
### Step 1: Gather Supplies
The most important part of this project is gathering the supplies. You’ll need:
– wax
– wick
– container for your candle
– double boiler
– thermometer
– essential oils (optional)
– Dye (optional)
You can buy these items at your local craft store or online. Once you’ve got all your supplies, you’re ready to move on to the next step.
### Step 2: Prepare the Wick
To ensure your candle burns without issues, you’ll need to prepare the wick. Cut the wick to the desired length and tie it to a pencil or chopstick. This will hold the wick in place while the candle is cooling.
### Step 3: Melt the Wax
Now it’s time to melt the wax. Begin by filling the double boiler with water and bringing it to a simmer. Then, add in your wax and melt it completely. Use the thermometer to make sure the temperature doesn’t rise above 190°F.
### Step 4: Add Color and Scent (Optional)
If you’d like to make your candle more decorative or aromatic, you can add a few drops of essential oil or dye to the melted wax.
### Step 5: Pour the Wax
Once everything is melted and mixed, it’s time to pour the wax into the container. Use a pot holder or oven mitt to pour the wax into the container. Hold the wick up with the pencil and make sure it stays centered in the wax.
### Step 6: Let it Cool
Allow the wax to cool and solidify. You may need to adjust the wick as it cools. Once it’s completely cooled, trim the wick and remove it from the pencil/chopstick.
### Step 7: Enjoy Your Candle
Congratulations! After following these steps, you should now have your own homemade candle. Light it up and enjoy your one-of-a-kind creation.
How do you make scented candles at home?
1. Gather all of your supplies: candle wax, wick, melting pot, scent, glass container and wick holders.
2. Melt the wax in a double boiler over medium-high heat until it reaches 140-165°F (depending on the wax you are using).
3. Remove the melted wax from heat and add your desired scent oil.
4. Place the wick into the container and secure it with a wick holder.
5. Pour the melted wax and scent into the container.
6. Allow the wax to cool and hardened before trimming the wick and enjoying your homemade scented candle!
